On Saturday, September 26, 2026, something happened in Lagos that had never happened anywhere in the world before.
51,000 people showed up at Tafawa Balewa Square to watch the Black Market movie which broke the Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a film screening in a single location. The previous record,** 43,624 people**, had been held since 2015 by the Filipino film* Felix Manalo* and Lagos shattered it
And right in the middle of all 51,000 of those people, there was a booth where nobody was spending money. They were trading.
That booth was ours.
What TradebyBartr Brought to TBS
We did not come to the Black Market screening to hand out flyers. We came to build a live barter market inside a Guinness World Record event. And that is exactly what we did.
Here is what we set up:
- A full trading zone stocked with books, shoes, bags, clothes, accessories, and plants. Attendees could bring their own items and trade them for anything at the booth.
- A tattoo station where people got free tattoos. Not a giveaway with terms and conditions. Just walk up, sign up, trade value, sit down, get inked.
- A polaroid photo to capture moments
- A branded spin-the-wheel where people won several TradebyBartr merch.
- On-the-spot sign-ups. People created their TradebyBartr accounts right there, ready to keep trading after the event.
The Trades That Happened
This is the part that still gets us excited. People came to the booth and within minutes, they got it. No long explanation needed. No pitch deck. They looked at what was on the table, they looked at what they had on them, and the trades started.
Sneakers for books. Bags for plants. Earrings for tattoos. Caps for cufflinks.
One person traded a pair of sunglasses for branded merch and a plant. Another person showed up with a stack of books she had already read and walked away with a fresh tattoo and a hoodie. One guy stood at the booth for a full ten minutes just looking at everything, then said: "I wish I knew about this before. I would have brought so much stuff from home." That sentence right there is why we do this.
The Energy Was Different
There were over 50 sponsors and partners at the Black Market screening. Brands with big budgets, big banners, big setups. And they all did a great job. But something about the TradebyBartr booth was different. People were not just looking around. They were participating. They were giving something and getting something back. They were making decisions about what their stuff was worth. They were having conversations with strangers about value.
It wasn't transactional. It was personal. And it was beautiful.
Why This Matters
TradebyBartr is a platform built on one idea: your value is your currency. Not your bank balance. Not your salary but what you have, what you know and what you can do. That is your currency. At TBS, 51,000 people proved that this idea is bigger than a niche but a more natural way for people to live when given the option.
The barter economy is not going anywhere. It is going digital. And this event was the proof.
What Is Next
The event may be over, but the trading does not stop here.
If you signed up at TBS, your account is live. Log in, list something, start a conversation with someone who has what you want and make your first trade. It is free.
If you were not at the event, you can still join the movement. Sign up at TradebyBartr. Your first trade is on us.
We made history on Saturday. Now let's keep it moving.
